Grades & Alloys

6061

6061 is a general-purpose aluminum alloy offering a strong balance of strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability, commonly specified for structural and fluid system components. It machines cleanly with good chip formation, making it ideal for high-volume precision turning. Davenport multi-spindle machines exploit this by combining fast turning, drilling, and cross-milling operations in one setup, and the Hybrid further refines precision and chip control on thin-wall and tight-tolerance 6061 parts.

7075

7075 is a high-strength aerospace aluminum alloy used in critical structural and mechanical components where weight and fatigue performance are vital. It machines well but benefits from rigid support and optimized chip control to avoid chatter and maintain surface integrity on highly stressed features. The Davenport Hybrid’s enhanced rigidity and CNC-driven toolpaths enable aggressive yet stable turning and threading of 7075, giving Gates Albert a competitive, multi-spindle alternative to standalone CNC lathes.

2011

2011 aluminum is a free-cutting alloy developed specifically for high-speed machining with excellent chip breaking and surface finish, ideal for small precision fasteners, fittings, and connectors. Traditional Davenport screw machines excel in 2011, running at very high spindle speeds with short cycle times, while the Hybrid adds digital size control for tight tolerance and quick changeover between part families.

2024

2024 is a high-strength aluminum-copper alloy commonly used in aircraft structures and fittings, offering excellent strength-to-weight ratio and fatigue resistance. It tends to be slightly more abrasive than 6061, so tool selection and coolant delivery are important in high-volume production. The Davenport Hybrid’s rigid, bearing-mounted spindle system and CNC-controlled cutting parameters help maintain consistent dimensions and finishes on 2024 parts, even as runs extend over long production campaigns.
